YOUNG & WILD EXHIBITION MEMBERS' TOURS

Exclusively for Members

With Sydney Smith, Curator of Contemporary Art

As our contemporary art exhibition Young & Wild? is closing soon, we're offering Members a last chance to view this intriguing group of German Neo-Expressionist paintings, sculptures, and works on paper, including many new acquisitions from the Museum's collection.

The works of eight 'Junge Wilde' German artists including A R Penck, Georg Baselitz, Salome and Elvira Bach are featured in the exhibition and discussed on the curator-led tour. Curator Sydney Smith will guide us through this flamboyant presentation of artworks which are colourful and figurative, as well as experimental and energetic.

Framing the work in the context of earlier Expressionist movements as well as post-war German history and the heady days of 1980s West Berlin, Sydney will discuss the artists' many influences and their works' relevance to other collections in the Ashmolean. An insight into these modern German works can only enhance our appreciation and understanding of Neo-Expressionism.
