RODE 300 BIRTHDAY CONCERT
CELEBRATING 300 YEARS OF THE RODE STRADIVARIUS VIOLIN
This exclusive and intimate concert, exclusively for Ashmolean Members, will be a rare opportunity to hear an extraordinary instrument played in its 300th birthday year.
Antonio Stradivari’s violins are regarded as the finest ever made, and he set a standard that remains unmatched today. The beautifully decorated and ornamented ‘Rode’ violin was made in 1722, during Stradivari’s ‘golden period’, and was named for the French violinist and composer Pierre Rode. The programme includes two Beethoven violin sonatas, one written specifically for Pierre Rode, and selections of Violin Caprices by Rode.
The concert, in the Ashmolean’s Randolph Sculpture Gallery, will feature renowned musicians, violinist Michael Foyle and pianist Martin Cousin.
