By the fifth Impressionist exhibition, held in 1880, Camille Pissarro had begun to concentrate on the human figure in his paintings, and his brushstrokes became less fluid and more regular.
His meeting with the younger artists Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, in 1885, encouraged him to experiment with the ‘dot’ technique. Pissarro persevered with the technique until 1890, when he reverted to a more conventionally Impressionist style. This
talk with Dr Colin Harrison, curator of the Museum's Pissarro exhibition, will explore this period of crisis.
