PADUA STUDY DAY

Exclusively for Members

An Exclusive Online & In-Person Event for Members

The event will take place on Zoom and on-site in the Headley Lecture Theatre at the Ashmolean

Morning coffee and afternoon tea will be served in the lecture theatre for those with on-site tickets.

A long lunch hour will enable participants to visit the Museum’s galleries to see some of the artefacts being discussed, and to have lunch (not included in the ticket) in the Rooftop Restaurant or the downstairs Café.

With Diana Matthews, Jeremy Warren, Tim Wilson and Caroline Palmer

The beautiful northern Italian city of Padua, twinned with Oxford, is known for its ancient university, the early C14 frescoes by Giotto in the Arena Chapel, and the vast C13 Basilica of St Anthony. The basilica, with its Byzantine-style domes, contains the saint’s tomb and notable artworks.

This Study Day will follow the same pattern as the Mantua Study Day, with the same team of speakers: two lectures on art and architecture by Diana Matthews, presentations on bronzes by Jeremy Warren and ceramics by Tim Wilson, and a talk on prints and drawings in the Ashmolean collection by Caroline Palmer.
