In this special illustrated talk for Members, Alice will focus on stories from the Oxford University Archives, exploring the University’s museums and collections – the subject of her new book, Oxford University: Stories from the Archives.

She will highlight moments in the fascinating histories of the Ashmolean, the Museum of Natural History and the Pitt Rivers Museum.

Some of these stories will be familiar to many, but others will be new and perhaps surprising...

The University Archives, established in 1634 and based in the Bodleian Library, is the institutional archive of Oxford University. Alice's new book Oxford University: Stories from the Archives is an illustrated collection of stories about the history of the University of Oxford as told by its own archives.

The archives' records span over 800 years, and the book contains a selection of fifty-two documents and objects from the Archives which tell a range of stories about the University throughout its history, touching on key historical events, important individuals, and its impact on the lives of those in the city of Oxford and beyond.

The talk will be available to watch live on Zoom for those not able to attend in person. A recording of the event will be shared with ticketholders on request following the event.
