An Exclusive Online & In-Person Curator's Talk for Members of the Ashmolean

For those attending in person:
This event will be held in the Headley Lecture Theatre.
Tickets include access to Gallery 31 (Islamic Lustre & Tin Glaze Ceramics), and Gallery 40 (Studio Pottery in European Ceramics) for a non-guided tour until 5.15pm.
Tea, coffee and cake will be served in the Headley Lecture Theatre from 3pm.

The decorative technique known as lustreware - ceramic painted with an iridescent metallic pigment over the glaze was first used in 10th-century Iraq. From then on, lustreware went through many adaptations as craftsmen from countries as diverse as Iran, Spain, Mexico, and Britain explored its technical complexities and aesthetic virtues.

Join Dr Francesca Leoni, Assistant Keeper and Curator of Islamic Art on a fascinating journey that explores the appeal of lustreware as well as its obscure, almost alchemical, nature.

The talk will be available to watch live on Zoom for those not able to attend in person. A recording of the event will be shared with ticketholders on request following the event.
