EVENING HARPSICHORD RECITAL

Exclusive event for Members only

Takes place in the European Art Gallery 44

With Arne Richards, musician and director of the Oxford Concert Party

Arne Richards is well known to Oxford audiences as the co-founder and director of the Oxford Concert Party, described as 'one of the most entertaining, mould-breaking groups around'. Renowned for his exciting and stylish playing, he has recorded regularly for BBC Radio and Television and Channel 4 Television.

The Ashmolean’s harpsichord was made in London by Jacob Kirkman in 1772. Kirckman was harpsichord maker to the Queen and had a wide reputation for the excellence of his instruments.

Arne will talk about the history and structure of the Kirkman and his recital will include pieces that reflect some of the objects in the Museum, contemporary with the instrument.
