FOUNDER'S FESTIVAL
At this event we celebrated Elias Ashmole’s 400th birthday year in 17th-century style. We were transported back to the 1600s during the festival weekend with period theatre, talks, quizzes and music.

- Making Powhatan’s Mantle – Leatherworking demonstrations.
- Watch the process of Brain Tanning deer skins in methods used by the Tsenacommacah people of North America who made the original Powhatan’s mantle now in the new gallery “The Ashmolean Story”
- Gallery Tours: The Ashmolean Story
- 10 minute tours of selected 17th-century items in the new gallery such as Powhatan’s Mantle, Guy Fawkes lantern, and Elias Ashmole’s portrait. Times: 1.30pm, 2pm, 2.30pm, 3pm , 3.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday
- 12.00 (Saturday only) Curator Talk led by Drs Alison Roberts and Eleanor Standley
