EVENING GUIDED TOUR OF ALI KAZIM'S EXHIBITION

Exclusively for Members

An after-hours exhibition gallery tour for Members of the Ashmolean

With Professor Mallica Kumbera Landrus, Keeper of Eastern Art

This is the first of two exclusive Member gallery tours; the second is on 8 April.

Gallery 8, Lower Ground Floor

On this special after-hours guided tour, Curator Professor Mallica Kumbera Landrus will give members a unique opportunity to absorb Ali Kazim's dramatic exhibition, Suspended in Time, in the gallery space.

Ali Kazim is one of the most exciting artists working in Pakistan today. He was the Ashmolean artist-in-residence during 2019 and we shall hear how objects in the Museum’s South Asian collection inspired his work.

The 40 small clay and terracotta sculptures in his ‘Votive Offering’ series evolved after Kazim’s close engagement with some of the Museum’s collection of Buddhist items. His ‘Man of Faith’ portraits are a tour-de-force of emotion, and it's breathtaking to enter the Gallery and encounter his huge but delicate five-panel watercolour, the ‘Conference of Birds’ in flight. We shall hear how the exhibition came about.
