Often the story behind an object’s arrival in the museum can be as fascinating as the artefact itself.

Camels and other objects were commonly placed in tombs of the wealthy in northern China during the Tang dynasty (618 to 907 AD).

Katharina will recount the camel’s extraordinary journey from a Tang dynasty tomb, escaping Nazi Germany, on its way to becoming a favourite object in the Ashmolean. The camel currently resides in Gallery 28 of the Museum.
