This tour will introduce members to a pivotal figure of Arab modern art, Dia al-Azzawi and the genre of dafatir, or ‘artist books’, a selection of which is currently on display in gallery 8 in his Painting Poetry exhibition.

Created as pictorial responses to famous classical and modern poetry, dafatir are a not only a window onto Azzawi’s artistic practice but also a platform to reflect on the tragedy of war and human injustices.
